Here are some key takeaways:
Values vs. Strengths.
Your values likely differ from your strengths, as they’re guiding principals that help you make thoughtful decisions. Values may adjust over time given life stage or environment. Need a starting place? Ask ChatGPT to create a list of values and use this in the below exercise.
Put them in practice.
Keeping your values top of mind, especially in the beginning, isn’t always easy. Write down “Did I align with my values today?” on a sticky note and place it on your mirror or at your desk. This reminder will help you reflect and recenter daily.
There’s a trade off.
When you say “yes” to something, what are you saying “no” to? As you use your values to guide decision making, you’ll begin weighing whether or not the thing in question aligns.
Ex: You decide to stay in on a weeknight, so you can get to the office early and prepare for a meeting. Your friends reach out with a spare concert ticket for that night. Using your values, how would you decide what to do? There’s no wrong answer, just a different way of making decisions.
