Overcoming Challenges: Turning rejection into opportunity

Rejection is inevitable in any career, but can seem never ending in today’s tough sales market. However, it is possible to turn these obstacles into opportunities.

In our panel discussion "Overcoming Challenges" our panelists Janet James (Donaldson), Aly Ausen (Movable Ink), and Katie Capuzzo (WISE) shared perspectives on how you can reframe rejection and make it work for you.

Here are some key takeaways to guide you in your professional journey.

Are you a good communicator or an effective communicator?

A huge component of effective communication is actually not talking at all, it’s listening. Be it to the customer, your team, or yourself. Though it takes some getting used to, allowing your customer to sit with a question and not jumping in to fill the silence is beneficial to getting on the same page.

Not every job is the perfect job.

No company or role is 100, but you can learn and skill build regardless. In a tough job market, it’s important to reserve asks for when you have leverage aka once you’ve had a few conversations and shown why you’re a great fit for the position.

Control what you can.

Lean into relationships both internally and with your customers, stay up to date on product knowledge, schedule monthly alignment calls and set up Google alerts on current and prospective customers.

When met with an obstacle, choose growth!
