Success Redefined: Pivotal decisions that impact a career

By:

Team WISE

Success is often defined as achieving our goals and dreams, but it could change depending on our priorities and interests in life. How has your definition of success evolved throughout your life and your career?

In our panel discussion "Success Redefined" our panelists Mallory Wheaton (Handshake), Ash Grewal (The OverachieveHers), and Katie Capuzzo (WISE) shared perspectives on what success looks like and how you can continue pursuing it.

Here are some key takeaways to guide you in your professional journey.

Define success for yourself.

Do you have a Northstar? It's the goal you're working toward that allows you to make informed decisions that keep you oriented. Ex: If your goal is to be a COO, think about the experience you don't have that you'll need to land that role. If you need help identifying a Northstar, consider the toughest problems of the business and put yourself in the center of them, while also keeping in mind your passion areas and strengths.

Your relationship to success should evolve.

You may start your career chasing a title and along the way adjust to seeking a more meaningful scope of work. Big lifestyle changes can also influence your priorities and what success means to you.

Let's talk about burnout.

While environmental factors play a role, it's within your control to manage burnout. Give yourself space to reflect on the moments causing the stress to build and ask for support from your manager or peer.
